Details
STOKE FLEMING SX84NE Barn and cart shed 6/133 immediately East of Riversbridge Farmhouse
GV II Barn and adjoining cartshed. Probably C18 or early C19, and repaired in late C19. Local slate rubble. Scantle slate roof with gabled ends. The cart shed to the right (south) has a lower roof with a hipped end. Plan: Rectangular plan barn with a wide doorway to the front left and a loft above, and a 3-bay open-fronted cart shed on the right hand end. Exterior: The barn is 2 storeys and has a wide doorway to the left of the front with a large chamfered timber lintel and loft doorway at the centre with an old plank door with strap hinges. The cart shed on the right is single storey with a lower hipped roof and has a 3-bay open-front with 2 timber posts supporting a large timber arcade plate. Part of the rear wall of the barn including the top courses appears to have been rebuilt. Interior: The barn has late C19 scissor-braced soft wood trusses. The cart shed has a similar roof structure which might be a little earlier - if pegged apex joints.
