WESTLEIGH WESTLEIGH SS 42 NE 3/130 2 sets of gravestones to head and feet of graves of Honour and Mary Burden approximately 5 metres west of west end of west tower of Church of St Peter GV II Two sets of gravestones. Late C18. Slate. Nowy-arched. Headstone recording death of Honour daughter of William Burden died 1761 aged 3. Below, a shared inscription with John son of Leonard and Grace Wood died 1786. Well-bedded stone at foot of grave with part of verse 'Her time was short The Longer is her rest' Headstone of Mary, wife of William Burden, died 1773 has incised crossed bones above inscription 'Her ways were ways of Pleasantness and all Her Paths were peace' Recorded on reverse is death of Mary wife of James Jenn of Horwood, died, 1812. Stone at foot of grave with representation of hour-glass flanked by words 'my glass/is run' with inscription 'Here lies this mortal part of a beloved wife Prudent in all her Conduct Here in Life A tender mother, a faithful Comfort here, Lamented by Her Spouse and Children dear Secure of Peace Her Soul is Gone to Rest in The eternal mansions of the blesst.'
