Details

WEST ANSTEY WEST ANSTEY SS 82 NE 2/51 Church Town Farmhouse - GV II Farmhouse. Probably C17 core, extensively remodelled in C19. Painted rendered stone rubble and cob. Slate roof with axial and gable end stone rubble stacks with tapered caps, that to left end with clay pot with horns. Lateral rear stack to added range at right end. Plan: 3-room and cross-passage plan, lower end to right, the partition on the lower side of the cross-passage having been removed. Continuous outshuts to rear containing staircase. Probably C18 kitchen/servants quarters range with lower ridge level added at right end with large kitchen and dairy. Exterior: 2 storeys. 4-window range C19 fenestration. All 3-light casements, 6 panes per light, except for 2-light casement above 4-panelled door, the upper 2 panels glazed. Interior: C19 joinery survives largely throughout. C19 chimneypiece to lower end fireplace with bread oven. Hollow chamfered cross ceiling beam to former cross- passage, 2 chamfered axial ceiling beams and rear bressumer to hall and deep chamfered axial ceiling beam and bressumers to inner room. Hall and inner room fireplaces concealed by C20 chimneypieces. Roof structure entirely replaced in C19.
