6/53 Island House (formerly listed as 20.2.67 Island House and Cottage attached to Island House) GV II
House. C17 or earlier in origin with later additions and remodelling. Colourwashed rendered cob and stone rubble; thatched roof with with plain ridge, gabled at ends and half-hipped over the 2 storey porch; right end stack with a modern brick shaft, 2 internal rear lateral stacks with brick shafts. Plan: Single depth range, 3 rooms wide with a 2-storey porch approximately in the centre and a workshop at the right end. The right end room, now in use as a pottery, appears to be an addition or rebuilding and a change in plane on the front elevation suggests that the left end has also been rebuilt at some time. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 6 window front with a half-glazed late C19 or C20 door to the storeyed porch and a separate entrance to the right into the pottery. Timber windows of the late C19 and C20 with glazing bars, some fixed and some casements. Interior: Some exposed carpentry. Roof: Not inspected at time of survey (1987). Island House is in a crucial position in the village.
