Details
WITHERIDGE SS 81 NW 5/119 Range of farmbuildings to farmyard - of Newhouse Farm GV II Range of farmbuildings. One barn is C18, the remainder of the buildings were- erected in the early or mid C19. Rubble, barn of cob, brick dressings, hipped and gabled slate roofs. Plan: two yards enclosed by farmbuildings on 2 and 3 sides; the lower yard with stables on 2 sides, the other 2 sides of the yard enclosed by a curving section of wail bounding the roadside; large carriageway through left range gives onto the frontage of Newhouse Farmhouse (q.v). The higher yard surrounded on 3 sides with ranges of buildings including a barn and animal shelters, the yard itself of 2 levels, the higher part supported by a very high retaining wall of rubble, further section of wall bounding the roadside, throughway in west range with a hay-loft over. Exteriors: with cambered head openings to lower yard including windows and doorways, brick voussoirs, on ground floor 3 casements with glazing bars and small panes, 2 with iron protecting bars at ground floor level. Door openings with plank doors, hay-loft openings which are set under the eaves. The higher yard with the C18 cob barn with central pair of large plank doors with lean-to porch with rubble sides, to left of front a small projecting wooden pigeon loft with 16 holes for birds; also on the front 2 projecting buttresses; animal shelters with narrow brick dressed piers, behind the shelters in the higher yard a further large barn, also a 5-bay carriage shed, 3 doorways with plank doors.
