6/123 Tanner monument and enclosing - railings about 4 metres south west of the tower of the Church of St Peter GV II

Monument in the form of an area on a pedestal, in an enclosure of railings. 1830s. Portland stone and granite, cast iron railings. Greek Revival style. An area with antefixae and pediments decorated with palmettes on a substantial square section Portland stone pedestal with a granite plinth. The pedestal has a moulded cornice and inscription panels which commemorate Richard Tanner, died 1834 and other members of the Tanner family. This is signed with initials but these are now illegible. The surrounding railings are probably contemporary, the shafts are reeded with spear on knob finials, the corner balusters are moulded with vase finials. An elegant Greek Revival monument.
