GV II
House. 1843, built for the Amory family to replace Old Calverleigh Court which was nearer to the parish church. Colourwashed and stuccoed, probably stone rubble; hipped slate roof; rendered brick stacks. Plan: Italianate villa style; deep rectangular plan to the main block which is 2 rooms wide with a central entrance; rear right service wing set back at the right end of the main block and extending beyond it to the rear, forming 1 boundary of the rear garden. Exterior: 2 storeys. 3-bay entrance elevation with deep eaves on timber brackets; tetrastyle portico in antis with half columns and pilasters to the rear; central 2- leaf front door with rectangular fanlight with glazing bars, door flanked by 8-pane sashes. Ground floor windows with raised surrounds and moulded cornices carried on consoles, glazed with 2-light casements with high transomes and glazing bars. First floor windows with moulded surrounds are glazed with small-pane 2-light casements. The symmetrical 7-bay left return has similar window details and a 2-storey canted bay in the centre. 3-bay rear elevation, with a glazed garden door in the centre and similar windows and glazing. The right return of the main block preserves some original sash windows. The service wing has sash windows facing the rear garden and ends in a crosswing with a 3-bay colonnade facing the garden below a round-headed niche. Interior: not inspected but may preserve 1843 features.
