Details

CHULMLEIGH SOUTH MOLTON STREET (east side), SS 6814-6914 Chulmleigh 7/95 Ivyside and Higher Ivyside GV II House. Probably early C19, divided in late C19 into 2 occupations. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Asbestos slate roof with gable ends. Rear lateral stack to each principal room, that to left rebuilt in C20, that to right with 2 clay posts. Rendered brick stack at left gable end. Plan: large principal room to each side of entrance stairhall. The house divided on left side of passage and additional entrance made at left end. Kitchen wing to rear right side with stables and coach-house attached at rear, entrance gateway and barn to rear left side. Exterior: 2 storeys. 5 window range, virtually symmetrical. C19 fenestration intact all twin sashes, 12 paned to upper storey, 8 paned to ground floor, all segmental arched. Central flat-roofed porch with plain pilasters and C20 doors. Doorway at left end has decorative carved console brackets supporting moulded canopy. C20 door between 2 left-hand windows. Interior: Ivyside (to right) has C19 joinery virtually entirely intact with 6 panelled doors, C19 staircase with ramped up handrail and stick balusters, and, moulded cornices to principal room and chamber over. Higher Ivyside entirely altered in C20. Stable fittings entirely intact to rear of Ivyside with 2 stalls with segmental arches supported on chamfered posts with moulded capitals.
