House. Early/Mid C18. Red English garden wall bond brick with stone slate and slate roof. Two storeys. Garden front: two bays with sash windows of 3 x 9 panes with exposed sash boxes and flat arches. Band between floors of 2 bricks depth. Two 2-light casements to the first floor. Stone slate roof. C19 outshut to left. Road front: slightly projecting gable wing to left with two blocked single-light windows to the ground floor. Continuation of the brick band between floors. Two-light casement window to first floor. To the right of this is a recessed portion. Cambered-headed doorway to the left with a C17 carved oak door brought from Withington Hall in the C19 and cut down to fit; three panels. The central one of square outline with semi-circular projections to each side containing 2 figures of mermen with entwined tails holding tridents. Glazed upper panel with half-colonettes in front. Ovolo moulded surround. Slate roof. Adjoining to the right under the same roof line is another later cottage (not listed). Interior: Encased ceiling beams. 6-panel doors to ground and first floors, with moulded reveals. Staircase with panelled reveals and ½ -windows.
