GV II
House. C14, altered in C17 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Short hall range of one or 2 bays facing SE, two 2-bay crosswings. Internal stack at rear of left crosswing, axial stack at junction of hall and right crosswing. C20 rear extensions. 2 storeys. 3-window range of C20 casements. C20 door, and garage doors in right crosswing. Small jetty at left side, not part of the original structure. The interior has jowled posts, some exposed studding. Originally both crosswings were jettied to the front, now underbuilt, and the front wall of the hall range has been rebuilt to align with the underbuilt jetties. Inserted floor in'hall range with richly moulded beams, early C16. Rear wall of hall raised by approx. one metre and roof rebuilt in C17. Timbers on left side of right crosswing are soot-encrusted under paint. Right crosswing has cambered tiebeam with one brace of wide section, and complete crownpost roof with axial braces of wide section. Left crosswing has cambered tiebeam with 2 arched braces, roof originally of crownpost construction but rebuilt above tiebeam. RCHM 33.
