House. Probably early C17. Roughcast stone with slate roof. 2 storeys,
3 bays. Windows have casements, those to ground floor with dripstones, those to
1st floor project above eaves slightly, with raking heads. Entrance has gabled
slate canopy and right hand side. Former fire window, now spice cupboard, to
left hand end, now blocked to outside. Gable-end stack. Rear has gabled wing;
line of former cat slide roof to outshut visible to left return. One rear
window has 2-light mullioned frame. Window to left return was former spice
cupboard. Interior has 2 full cruck trusses with wind braces. Partition to
ground floor has 3 doors, one pegged and one a 2-panel door, also stud and
plaster partition. 1st floor has plank and mullion partition. 1st bay has
joists laid flat, indicating possible crogloft to full-height room. Good C19
range. Property of The National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
