GV II

3 cottages, now house. Probably late C18-early C19, modernised 1984. Plastered cob on rubble footings; cob stacks topped with C20 brick; concrete tile roof of 1984 replacing thatch. Originally a row of 3, 2-storey cottages with cob party walls. Faces south east. The former cottage nearest the road (right of front) was of 2 rooms, the others only one. Right end gable stack to right cottage and left side stacks to others. Vaguely balanced overall 6-window front. On ground floor windows alternate with positions of original doors; the doors to centre and right are blocked with windows but retain simple C19 wooden porches with panelled and glazed sides and gabled roofs, and window between replaced by C20 door. Ground floor windows have simple wooden hoods. Left cottage has 3-light casement to ground floor and 12-pane sashes to first. Others have late C19 16-pane sashes and single fixed 4-pane window over central door. Outer fireplaces exposed with plain oak lintels and include side-ovens. Plain chamfered cross beams. Formerly known as Ashes Tenement. Included for group value.
