Details
NORTH TAWTON SS 60 SE 6/74 Newland Mill House GV II Former mill house. Probably 1814, contemporary with mill, with mid C19 additions. Stone rubble walls. Gable ended slate roof. 3 brick stacks, 2 at outer sides of each block and 1 between the two. Plan: the original house, probably of 2-room plan, is at the rear. In the mid-late C19 2 adjoining wings were added behind it forming a new front. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front of 2 gabled ranges, the right- hand one projecting with 2-storey canted bay window of 2 and 4 pane sashes. The left-hand range has two 16-pane sashes on each floor with an arched stair window to the right and a contemporary glazed door below. These windows have stone arches above. The mill building is attached at the left-hand end. To the rear the original front retains its small-paned sash windows. Interior not inspected.
