Details

NORTH TAWTON SS 60 SE 6/77 Railway Station II Station building and station-master's house, now disused. 1865. Walls of irregularly sized stone blocks which are coursed. Gable ended slate roofs. 3 stone stacks - one at either end of house and one axial to 1-storey building. Plan: Station-master's house to left with 2 heated rooms and 1 storey station building to right which has ticket office and waiting room to its right. Exterior: 2-storey house to left and recessed 1-storey station to its right with slightly projecting gable at its right end. The house has a double gabled 2-window front of original 1 and 2-light sash windows in arched openings and with contrasting plastered stone architraves. Central doorway with C19 panelled door. Station building has doorway to left of centre with arched head and similar 1-light window to either side, 3-light window to right-hand end. The rear elevation facing the platform is similar in reverse and retains its original platform canopy to the recessed section with ornate wrought iron brackets and wooden fretwork frieze.
