Details
HIGH BICKINGTON HIGH STREET, High Bickington SS 60 20 15/101 Howards and adjoining linhay - GV II
House and adjoining linhay. Late C18 or early C19, remodelled in the early C20. Rendered, probably over cob or stone rubble. Uncoursed stone rubble addition. Welsh-slate roof, gabled-ended to right and hipped to left (formerly thatched). Lean-to roof at rear, hipped to right-hand corner. Rendered end stack to right with early C20 red brick top section and early C19 brick end stack to left. Linhay of rendered cob with gable-ended C20 clay-tile roof. Plan and development: Two-room central-entrance plan with external end stack to right and integral end stack to left. Central staircase. Probably C19 two-storey lean-to outshut at rear. Remodelled in the early C20. Parallel linhay at rear linked by short section of wall at right-hand end. Rendered and reroofed in the early C20. Two storeys. Exterior: Symmetrical 3-bay front; early C20 glazing bar sashes, 16-pane to first floor (each leaf of 4 x 2 panes) and tripartite to ground floor (consisting of central 16-pane sash with side lights). First floor windows with louvred shutters. Central door with 4 lower panels and 3 glazed upper panels, pegged chamfered wooden frame and gabled lattice wooden porch with shaped barge boards. Right-hand side of rear outshut has first-and ground-floor late C20 two-light wooden casements (in old openings) that to ground floor with wooden lintel. Linhay at rear has 3-bay open front with square piers. The short section of linhay wall has a boarded door with chamfered wooden frame. Interior not inspected.
