Cottage, latterly also post office. Probably late C17 or early C18. Early C20
addition and minor late C20 additions. Rendered cob with wheatstraw thatched roof.
Red brick end stacks. Early C20 addition of painted rock-faced snecked dressed stone
with brick dressings and gable-ended Welsh-slate roof. Rendered late C20 addition.
Plan and development: Two-room central entrance plan with integral end stack, facing
south (sited at right angles to the road). Central straight flight of stairs rising
from entrance lobby. Principal larger room to the right and rear doorway behind the
stairs. One storey early C20 addition at right-hand end (probably former post
office). Late C20 lean-to conservatory to left-hand gable end and late C20 bathroom
addition at rear of left-hand end. Two storeys with one-storey additions.
Exterior: Nearly symmetrical 2-window front; C19 two-light wooden casements.
Roughly central entrance has early C20 half glazed 4-panelled door (lower panels
beaded flush) and late C20 gabled glazed porch. Narrow raking buttress to left of
door and wide raking buttresses flanking the right-hand ground-floor window. Early
C20 addition to the right has an old plank door to the front with a beaded wooden
frame and wooden lintel, and a window in the right-hand gable end with a segmental
head and 2 plank shutters with strap hinges. Disused George VI post box in the wall
to the left of the window. Late C20 lean-to conservatory adjoining the left-hand
gable end of the cottage.
Interior: Right-hand ground-floor room has plain joists spanning front to back and
an open fireplace with stone jambs and plain wooden lintel. Blocked doorway between
entrance lobby and right-hand room.
