ASKHAM NY 42 SE 7/4 Scalegate Farmhouse and - attached farm buildings
- II Farmhouse (uninhabited 1987) and farm buildings. Farmhouse early C17 altered 1765, additions c1700 and later. Stone rubble with some ashlar dressings and slate roofs. West elevation of 2 storeys and 2 bays. 3-light single-chamfered- mullioned windows, those to 1st floor with only one mullion. Central entrance has eared architrave and datestone with relief decoration and inscription "J and MH/1765". Inverted heart shaped opening above with cable mould; signs of gabled porch. Ashlar cross-axial stack with cap. Small outbuilding to north. To south a cow house with gabled end bay marking rear wing. 3 cow house entrances, 2 windows, with 1st floor entrance; gabled bay has entrance with flanking windows. Barn recessed to south has segmental-headed entrance, blocked entrance and ventilation slots. Re-entrant 1st floor entrance up steps to cow house. Lean-to outshut to south end. Rear of house has C19 gabled wing incorporating blocked chamfered window. Outbuilding to north has large entrance and small- paned casement. Cow house has 1st floor entrance and 2-light hollow-chamfered- mullioned window, mullion missing. Wing has large entrance to south. Interior of house has fireplace with corbelled lintel and brick heck partition; stop- chamfered beams.
