Details

PAPCASTLE PAPCASTLE NY 13 SW 5/204 The Grove and adjoining former stables G.V. II House and stables. Dated and inscribed on window keystone over entrance JOHN HIND 1753 (confirmed by deeds) incorporating part of C17 house to rear. Painted roughcast walls, with eaves cornice and V-jointed quoins, on chamfered plinth. Graduated greenslate roof with roughcast chimney stacks. Stables with C20 tile roof and weather vane. 2 storeys, 5 bays, with single-storey right extension linking with right-angled former stables. C20 door in glazed segmental pilastered porch. Large pedimented gable on scrolled brackets, over tall round-headed stair window with glazing bars in pilastered surround and false keystone. Sash windows with glazing bars in painted stone architraves. Extension has boarded door in painted stone architrave. Left return wall has greenslate sundial with gold numerals inscribed J. FALDER 1772. Stable, now garage, has C20 door under greenslate C18 sundial. Right segmental archway. Right return wall has boarded door in segmental carriage archway. C20 casement windows and small loft doorway.
