8/65 High Brownrigg and adjoining former 11.4.67 byres
II
Farmhouse and former byres. Dated and inscribed over entrance Robert Vaux 1722, with panel of his coat-of-arms; late C18 extension. Byres are mid C17 and may be part of the original house. Roughcast walls with eaves cornice and V-jointed quoins. Graduated greenslate roof with bottom courses of sandstone slates, and coped gables; stone chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays, with single-bay extension to right under common roof. Plank door to left and C20 door to right, both with painted stone architraves and millstone doorsteps (from Lord's Mill, Caldbeck). Casement windows with glazing bars, each having a single opening pane, all in painted stone architraves. Large sash windows in extension in painted stone surrounds. Lower byres to left of mixed limestone rubble. 3 Tudor-arched doorways. Further doorway to extreme right may have been a cross-passage, with loft above. Further 2 blocked and partly blocked lofts and small chamfered-surround opening. Adjoining single-storey garage is not of interest.
