2/190 Slack

II

Farmhouse. Late C18, incorporating mid C17 features; early C19 alterations and additions. Incised stucco walls, with eaves cornice and angle pilasters, on chamfered plinth. Graduated greenslate roof with stone chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 2 bays with 2-bay extension to left under common roof. 6-panel door in painted stone surround under segmental broken pediment. Double sash windows in painted stone architraves. Extension has 6-panel door under pediment, and sash windows with glazing bars, in painted stone surrounds. Interior has beamed ground floor ceiling, firebeam and heck partition. Built-in cupboard in rear passage has carved date 1661, but appears to be reused timber. Part of wall of this passage is of clay and would have been the rear wall of the original farmhouse. This was the house of the Thompson family. J & S Thompson were resident in 1774. A free-standing court cupboard inscribed and dated I.W. 1694 (Wilson) which was in the house when purchased by the present owner, appears to have been moved here when a Wilson married into the Thompson family. Other imported datestones do not refer to this building. Adjoining extension and byre to right are not of interest.
