House. Probably early C18, with C19 alterations and few later alterations. Stone
rubble, the upper level in cob; painted and rendered. Thatched roof with gable ends.
Gable end stack to right with brick shaft; gable end stack to left truncated.
Plan: Central entrance to passage with room to right and left, the kitchen to left
and parlour to right, each room heated from a gable end stack. There is a projection
to rear left which is probably the original site of the stair. Circa early-mid-C19,
a straight stair was inserted along the right side of the passage. C20 lean-to at
the rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 2-window front. Ground floor has C20 half-glazed
door; C19 12-pane sash to right and left with slate cills. First floor has similar
sash to right and left with eyebrow dormer. Left end rendered, with very large
external stack with a curved oven at the base. Right end blind. At the rear, there
is a projection to right which may be the site of the original stair. C20 single
storey lean-to to left.
Interior: At ground floor, both rooms and the passage have roughly hewn chamfered
beams. The room to right has an early C19 chimney-piece with cast iron grate. Each
room has a plank door. The walls to either side of the passage are plain wooden
panelling, probably of early C18. The feet of the trusses are boxed in at first
floor.
