House; altered to accommodate a Post Office. Post Office. Mid - late C19 with few
later alterations. Granite rubble with brick dressings. Scantle slate roof with
ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: Double depth plan, with central entrance and principal room to front left and
right, of equal size; each room heated from a gable end stack. Rear central stair
hall with shallow rear service rooms. There is a small single storey addition of
later C19 at the front right side. Probably circa early C20, the front and rear
rooms to left were altered as a shop, with entrance at the left side.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3-window front; all windows are mid C19 sashes with
wide margin glazing and cambered brick arches. Central C19 4-panelled door with
cambered brick arch. Attached to front right is a small single storey addition with
monopitch roof, C19 12-pane sash with cambered brick arch at the inner side and C20
door with overlight to front.
At the left side at ground floor there is a continuous timber lintel over a central
C20 glazed door, early C20 4-pane shop window to right and left with toplights.
At first floor there are two C19 12-pane sashes with cambered brick arches. At the
rear there is a central C20 glazed door with 2-light 3-pane C19 casement with
cambered brick arch to left. First floor has central round-arched C19 12-pane sash
with splayed glazing bars lighting the stair, 2-light 8-pane C19 casement to left
with cambered brick arch. Small single storey addition to left, in brick of later
C19.
