GRAMPOUND FORE STREET (south side), Grampound SW 9248-9348 WITH CREED 7/57 Radnor House Antiques - GV II

House; now house and shop. Circa late C17, with alterations and additions of early and late C18, with some later alterations. Slatestone rubble with granite dressings. Asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles, gable end to left, hipped to right. Stacks removed. The stack at the right end is truncated, with short section of rendered shaft remaining. Plan: 2-room plan with central passage, each room of nearly equal size and heated from an end stack. Probably circa early C18, an addition of one-room plan with a stair hall was made to rear ligth, containing the stair to centre and a small unheated room to rear right. Probably circa late C18, an addition was made to rear left, as a service wing of 2-room plan, the inner room heated from a stack at the left side and the end room heated from a stack at the rear gable end. In late C20 a conservatory was added to the inner side of the wing to rear left. The 2 front rooms are used as a shop. Exterior: 2 storeys, nearly symmetrical 3-window front on rendered plinth with granite long and short quoins. First floor has three C19 16-pane sashes. Ground floor has central C19 panelled and glazed door with granite voussoirs and floating cornice. C19 16-pane sash to right with granite voussoirs. Late C19 square bay shop window to left with hipped slate roof and plate-glass windows. The right end is blind. The left end abuts the adjoining house. The left side of the rear wing has late C19 4-pane sash at ground floor. At the rear, the early C18 addition to left was raised in height circa late C18; at ground floor there is an early C18 12-pane sash with thick glazing bars and late C18 12-pane sash with thin glazing bars at first floor. To right a C20 9-pane light and C20 door. The service wing to right is 2- storey; at ground floor there is a C20 door, with C19 20-pane sash to left and C19 16-pane sash to right. First floor has two C19 16-pane sashes. C20 conservatory attached in the angle to the main range. Interior: The partition walls have been removed at ground floor. The room to left has fireplace with granite surround, with hollow-moulded jambs with a ball finial on a shaped stem as a stop; the lintel has the same design of hollow-moulding and stop. The room to right has end fireplace with only the jambs remaining from a similar granite fireplace, the lintel removed. The central passage area is wide, and slate- paved. The room to rear right has the early C18 sash, which is ovolo-moulded on the inside. Open-well stair with stick balusters. In the rear wing to left, the inner room has blocked fireplace and chamfered wooden lintel remaining; the end room has end fireplace with cloam oven with cast iron door.
