Details

ST ERTH FORE STREET (north side), St Erth SW 5435-5535 13/230 Nos 27 and 29 (Porch Cottages) - GV II

House with adjoining cottage. Circa 1800. Killas and granite rubble with granite dressings to ground floor, rendered above (possibly over cob). Scantle slate roofs with brick chimneys over the gable ends and over the cross party wall. Cast-iron ogee gutters. Plan: Double depth plan. 2 rooms wide house on the left, probably slightly later cottage on the right with one room at the front and 1-room-plan bay set back on the right. House has wider room, left (probably kitchen/living room) and parlour right with cross passage between leading to stair and rear service rooms. Cottage has cross passage on its left. Exterior: 2-storeys. Overall 4:1 window range. House on left has nearly symmetrical 2 window front with doorway central to the fenestration. Old panelled door. Cottage has window over doorway, windows on the right and to wing set back on the right. All the windows are circa late C19 or C20 4-pane horned sashes. Both house and cottage have old open-fronted gabled porches. The cottage has C20 door blocking its former open front. Interior: Not inspected.
