ST ERTH LONG LANE SW 53 SW 6/250 Tregethas Farmhouse, front garden - walls, earth closets and rear courtyard walls GV II

Farmhouse, including adjoining front garden walls, earth-closets and rear courtyard walls. C17, remodelled in the C18, extended in the C19. C19 granite rubble front with granite dressings, otherwise painted rubble walls. Hipped grouted scantle slate roof with brick chimney over the side walls at the front, grouted scantle slate roof with chimneys over the gable ends of the parallel rear range (original house) with large C17 rubble stack over the left hand end. Plan: trouble depth plan: 2-rooms-wide. Circa mid-Cl9 house at the front with entrance hall between the 2 front parlours; pantry behind left-hand room ; stair hall behind wider right-hand room and 2-room-plan of original C17 house at the rear with cross passage and second stair between the rooms. Wide blocked opening in the-axial wall indicates that this may have been the C17 front wall, possibly remodelled in the C18 as 5 window front. There are ships timbers reused as lintels over these openings. Later (probably C19) lean-to washhouse at rear left. Exterior: 2-storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window south west front with doorway and window over, slightly left of middle. Original circa mid-cl9 door and windows: 4 panel door with overlight; hornless sashes with glazing bars. Rear is slightly irregular 3-window 'front' with approximately central doorway with window over; wide opening under left-hand window with circa late C18 or early C19 - 20-pane sash; wider opening right of doorway with circa mid-C18 3-light casement with 2 original 8-pane lights with thick glazing bars and C18 horizontal-sliding sashes to square first floor openings. Old ledged door. On the right is a lean-to with doorway into left-hand side and chimney at rear right, adjoining corner of house. Interior: C17 features: possibly late C17 plaster ceiling in rear right-hand room, with round central mouldings surrounding a Tudor rose; fireplace in rear left hand room with chamfered granite jambs and lintel and deep niche on its left (remodelled in the C18). C18 features: softwood plank and muntin partitions; ceiling beams and some doors. C19 features: front part of house has most of its original features including stair; parlour ceilings (ceiling band in right-hand room) panelled doors and archway at rear of entrance hall. Rubble garden walls adjoin at either side of the front of the house. Wall at left adjoins a 2-cell earth closet with doorway at either side. There are 2 niches under the side facing north east.
