St Symphorian

Headstone and tombchest. 1786 and 1767.
Headstone 1786. In memory of Agnes, wife of John Gard who died in 1786. Slate
headstone with cusped head. Engraved in upper and lower case lettering with serifs
and verse in cursive script. Angel's head at top. Verse:
My dearest Husband Lo I come
To meet thee in Eternal Home
To dwell above in Christs Embrace
And to behold Him Face to Face
Tis only from the Lord above
A gracious Act of Soverign Love
To north east, tombchest 1767. In memory of John, son of Thomas and Catherine Gard
who died in 1767. Slate rubble chest and slate rectangular lid. Well inscribed in
upper and lower case lettering with serifs. Decorated with floral motifs. Verse.
