Cottage
GV II
Two cottages, probably originally used in conjunction with Boscastle harbour, now
converted into one house. Lefthand cottage circa early C19, extended with second
cottage on right in circa mid C19. Rendered and painted stone rubble. Rag slate roof
with gable ends, brick end stacks and brick axial stack to right of centre.
Single depth plan; ground rises to rear with basement to front probably originally
used as cellars. Probably originally a 2-room plan to left hand cottage, extended in
mid C19 with second cottage of 1-room plan on right hand gable end. Converted in
circa C20 to form house of 3-room plan on ground floor with entrance in rear
elevation. Wing of one room plan added to rear right in late C20.
2 storeys and basement. Asymmetrical five window front to harbour; two low plank
doors to basement with shuttered window opening to right. Ground floor with circa
late C19/C20 2-light casement and C19 2-light horizontaly sliding sash flanking small
C20 window opening. Two circa late C19/C20 4-pane sashes to right. First floor with
circa late C19/C20 and two C19 2-light casements in gatted half dormers with two late
C19/C20 4-pane sashes to right. Lean to outshot on left hand gable end.
Interior not inspected.
These cottages are particularly prominent in picturesque harbour of Boscastle.
