Details
TINTAGEL TREKNOW SX 08 NE 4/215 Oakcroft GV II House, later extended to form 2 cottages and then converted into 1 cottage. Circa late C16, extended in early C17 and remodelled in late C20. Rendered and painted slate-stone rubble. Slate roof with gable ends, higher roof to range on left. Stone rubble stacks on gable ends with pots constructed of vertical slates typical at Tintagel. The left-hand range is probably the original house which was of 1 room plan; heated by a stack on the left hand gable end with entrance to front right and semi-circular stair turret to rear. In circa early to mid C17 a second cottage was added to the right hand gable end; 1 room plan, probably heated by a stack on the right hand gable end with a rectangular stair turret to rear. The entrance may have been in the right hand gable end. 2 storeys with higher left hand range set forward. The eaves were possibly raised in the early to mid C20 when part of the roof structure was renewed. Regular 3-window front with 2-light casement and part glazed C20 door to left and 2-light casement to right. First floor with 2-light casements above ground floor openings. C20 extension on right hand gable end. Interior with ceiling beams replaced. Large slate lintel to fireplace on left-hand gable end. Thick wall between 2 cottages continues up to apex. The timber treads in the semi-circular stair-turret on rear left and in the rectangular stair-turret on rear right were replaced in the 1970s. Roof structure not inspected. Owners state that the roof structure was replaced in the early to mid C20.
