BOYTON BENNACOTT SX 29 SE 4/8 Farmhouse and adjoining barn on - west of settlement at Bennacott

GV II

Farmhouse and adjoining barn. Circa early C17 origins extended in mid C19. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob and stone rubble front range with brick dressings. Rag slate roof with gable ends and parallel range to rear also with rag late roof with gable ends. Front range with brick end stack on left and projecting stone rubble end stack on right. Large stone rubble end stacks to rear range. Plan: Interior not accessible at time of survey. However, the rear probably C17 range contains a 2-room and probably through passage plan, heated by end stacks, the ground sloping down to left. In circa mid C19 a second parallel range was added to the front also with a 2-room and passage plan heated by end stacks. This later range was built to accommodate the 2 principal front rooms and the service rooms are in the earlier rear range. Circa C18 rectangular plan barn on lower left hand side of earlier range. Exterior: 2 storeys. Regular 3-window front to mid C19 range with C19 porch near centre, flanked by two 16-pane hornless sashes and with three C19 12-pane sashes on first floor. Rear elevation to earlier range has a single window front with C20 glazed porch and C20 metal-framed windows. Barn added on lower left hand side in circa C18 or early C19. Interior: Not accessible.
