Shop former town house. Late C18 with possible earlier origins. 2 storeys,
double pile plan with front block, timber framed and plastered and rear block
of brick. 2 parallel ranges of slate, gabled roofs. Front is of 3 bays with
plain plaster string band to mark the first floor. Painted timber underscaled
modillioned cornice. Upper floor has 3 double hung sash windows with large
panes and unusual broad band architraves with attached console brackets. Ground
floor has 2 similar, but deeper windows, and the central doorcase. This has
fluted Tuscan half columns with reduced entablature with fluting and roundels.
Semi-circular fanlight with cast iron Gothick glazing bars and all surrounded by
a band of lattice patterning. 3 part attenuated door pilasters witlh moulded
caps. Flight of stone cantilevered steps with cast iron ventilator strips to
basement and contemporary handrail with cast iron anthemium balusters. 2
basement vents with semi-circular areas. 4 octagonal stone bollards across
frontage. Interior has contemporary reeded cornices and fire-surrounds, arched
entrance lobby and contemporary, simple staircase with plain balusters. Traces
of ashlared plaster on first floor.
