Details
BLISLAND PENDRIFT SX 17 SW 9/75 Lower Pendrift Farmhouse - II
Farmhouse. Circa early C17, possibly with earlier origins. Stone rubble with granite quoins. Rag slate roof with higher roof over right hand range. Stone rubble end stack with brick shaft on left, stone rubble axial stack to left of centre and brick shaft to right. Plan: Possibly a 3-room and through passage plan, the lower room on left heated by an end stack; the hall heated by an axial stack, backing onto the passage and the inner room to right heated by an end stack. A full internal inspection would be especially helpful to establish whether this house is earlier than the early C17, especially as the hall stack, on external inspection, appears as if it may have been inserted. It is also uncertain when the roof above the hall and inner room was raised. In circa C18 lean-to outshot was added to rear of left hand room and passage. Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 3 window front with entrance to left of centre. Open gabled porch supported on 2 granite posts with straight cut stops at the top. Plank door. 6-pane sash to left and two 4-pane sashes to right. First floor with C19 4-pane sash to left and two 4-pane sashes to right. Interior: not inspected. An interior inspection may reveal several interesting features and may help to establish a more accurate date for this especially unaltered and attractive farmhouse.
