Details
BLISLAND SX 17 SW 9/19 Ruins of house at Lower Polpry - II
Ruins of house. Circa C17. Stone rubble. Roof structure removed. Stone rubble end stacks. Plan: original plan uncertain, only the shell of the house survives. Probably facing north the house appears to have originally been of 2 room and through passage plan. Stone rubble cross wall on right hand (west) side of passage and no partition remaining on left (east) side of passage; there is evidence of a possible blocked passage rear doorway in south wall only visible from interior. The right hand (west) room was heated by an end stack which may have been inserted and the left hand room on east heated by an end stack, previously with a cloam oven. In circa C18 an outshot was added to the front (north) of the left hand (east) room with a probably re-used 4-centred arch between. Probably also in the C18 an outshot was added to the front of the right hand (west) room. Exterior: Remains of front and rear walls up to first floor level and gable ends. South elevation with 2 window openings, the west opening splayed. Interior: East fireplace on left has chamfered granite lintel and jambs. Roughly cut granite lintel to right hand fireplace on west. Possibly re-used 4-centred granite arch between left hand room and outshot with hollow chamfer and probably diagonal stop (chamfered on north side).
