GV II
Public house. C18. Painted cob and rubble walls. Wheat reed thatched roofs over 2 oldest parts. Grouted scantle slate over rear left-hand range and part of parallel range, the remainder of which is concrete tile. Brick chimneys over the gable ends. Left-hand chimney is over large external chimney breast. Plan: Irregular plan of 2 almost parallel L-shaped single depth houses each with C19 extensions at approximately right angles behind its left-hand side. There was originally a narrow tapered courtyard between the 2 houses, now built over. Each house originally had 2 rooms with cross or through passage between. The front house has probably kitchen on the left and parlour on the right. Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window north-west front with approximately central doorway. Circa early C20 glazed porch with coloured marginal panes and consoles to it fascia. First floor left-hand window is wider with possible original 24-pane 3-light casement. Window below is probably reduced in width and has a circa early C19 16-pane horizontally-sliding sash. The other windows are similar circa early C19 sashes in unaltered C18 openings. Rear is front of the rear house and part of its original front wall has at some time been rebuilt reusing the circa early C19 12-pane horizontally-sliding sashes.
