4/19 Churchyard gate about 18 metres - east of the Church of St James - II

Gate and gate piers. Mid C19. Single leaf pedestrian wrought iron gate of 8 uprights equally spaced between a perimeter frame with a middle rail. Top rail bowed with 9 spike finials. 2 semicircular hoops join at the middle rail. Three- quarter length intermediate verticals with spear finials. Gate piers of square section are coped with ovolo-moulded stones said to have come from Stowe, built 1679, demolished 1739. In 1739 the Kilkhampton Churchwardens purchased 36 feet of coping stone at 6d per foot from Stowe.
