3/42 Dales Farmhouse - GV II

Farmhouse and garden walls to front. Circa late C18/early C19. Shale rubble walls with dressed granite sills and lintels. Scantle slate roof with brick chimneys over gable ends and cast iron ogee gutters. Plan 2 rooms wide with kitchen/living-room left and narrower and shallower parlour on right with shallow pantry behind. Stair against rear wall of kitchen and back kitchen dairy in probably later outshut behind. Large hearth in kitchen, smaller hearth in parlour and further hearth (blocked) in dairy. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window roughly east front with central doorway with top- glazed ledged door. Original 12-pane 2-light horizontal sliding sashes. Further original window to pantry in right-hand gable end: 2-light with horizontal wooden glazing bars and random width leaded panes between. Interior is virtually complete and unaltered since the C19: original 4 panel and 2 panels doors with old hinges and fittings including cupboard doors beside parlour hearth and to right of kitchen hearth. Painted rubble garden wall with round coping terminating at central gateway with round-headed dressed granite gate-piers. The most complete example of a group of 4 farmhouses in this hamlet and particularly notable for its original fenestration including the leaded window of which a number of other examples survive in the Lizard area.
