2/170 Mission Chapel north east of tower of former Church of Saint Kea

GV II

Mission chapel. Built 1862 and enlarged 1869. Slatestone rubble walls with granite quoins, jambstones, mullions arches and finials. Asbestos slate double span roof with cross finials over gable ends and projecting bell turret to west nave gable. Originally nave and chancel but south aisle and south porch towards west end, added in 1869. Restrained mid Gothic styles with geometrical traceried and lancet windows. All windows have leaded cusped lights with hoodmoulds over. West wall has 3-light window to aisle gable end, right, and 3-stage bellcote, with one bell, to nave gable end. North wall has single-light window, right, and two 2-light windows towards middle. East gable of chancel projects 1 bay beyond aisle gable and each has 3-light window. South wall has gabled entrance porch towards left with tall moulded pointed outer and inner doorway. Ashlar jambs to outer doorway. Further entrance for priest to far right with pointed doorway and hoodmould with carved stops. Two 2-light windows between with trefoil tracery. Further single-light window to left of porch and to south wall of chancel. Interior has simple arch-braced roofs on granite corbels and 4-bay freestone arcade of pointed arches carried on octagonal piers with moulded caps. Some coloured glass. Later C19 pine pews. A simple Gothic style building, complementing the ruined tower of old church qv to south west.
