SW 83 SW MYLOR TREFUSIS ROAD, (south side), Flushing 6/296 Kiln Quay
GV II
Quay. Circa late C17 or early C18. Probably built for Francis or Samuel Trefusis. Vertically-set slightly battered dry shale walling with iron stapled dressed granite copings and dressed granite steps. Slightly tapered rectangle-on-plan projecting to seaward (south) with further walling to north west, slipway ramp in angle and flight of steps at south west corner. There was once a lime kiln here and this quay was also the landing stage for Trefusis house qv. Both Francis Trefusis, died 1680, and Francis Trefusis were elected as Members of Parliament for Penryn. It is thought that Dutch engineers may have been employed for the earlier quays of this type. For many years this quay was becoming progressively more ruinous at each severe south easterly gale but fortunately was carefully repaired a few years ago.
