4/236 Memorial stone at approx 25m east
of Church of Saint Mylor

Memorial stone. 1814. Painted freestone monolith slab set in granite base. Ramped arched head with ovolo corners. West face of stone has moulded border framing incised inscription below with ramped arched moulded cornice and carving of sailing ship in storm with robust wave carving and cloud with lightning in tympanum. The ship has stumps of masts and may have been rigged or partly rigged originally.
Inscription reads: To the Memory of the WARRIORS Women and Children, who on their
return to England from the Coast of Spain; unhappily perished in the Wreck of the
Queen Transport, on Trefusis Point, JanY 14, 1814.
This stone is erected as a Testimony of regret for their fate by the Inhabitants of this Parish.
