SY 09 SW ROCKBEARE 3/100 Barn approximately 25 metres - south-east of Higher Upcott Farmhouse GV II

Threshing barn. Probably early C17, refurbished in the C18. Plastered cob on local purple-coloured sandstone rubble foundations including large dressed quoins; corrugated iron roof (formerly thatch). Small barn on a north-west - south-east axis built across a slope. Each side includes central full height doorways to the threshing floor. Because of the slope the floor on the south-west side is raised and therefore could be used for loading directly from or to carts. There are large probably C19 double doors flanked by short projecting midstray walls on either side. The roof is half-hipped at the north-west end and hipped at the south-east end. Interior is open to the roof which is 3 bays and carried on C18 collared tie beam trusses but also includes the remains of 1 original side-pegged jointed cruck truss.
