1/133 Inner lych gate approximately - 12 metres south of Church of St Mary

GV II

Lych gate. Dated 1890. Large blocks of red conglomerate ashlar with grey limestone ashlar quoins and coping, the latter with faint rustication; red tile roof with crested and pierced ridge tiles. The blind full-height side walls have chamfered and straight cut stopped inner edges. The roof is hipped each end with small gablets filled with carved oak open quatrefoils in circles. Across the front and back are oak low flat arches with moulded soffits and carved foliate spandrels. The front also has the initials TP to left and date 1890. These are panelled double gates with a wrought iron crest of fleur-de-lys. The roof is boarded and has a central king post truss. From the front 2 broad flights of 6 steps, the upper tier of limestone, the lower of granite, descend to the outer graveyard. The low parapets each side are built in the same style as the walls of the lych gate.
