TL 60 17 HIGH RODING THE STREET 4/7 Cob Cottage
GV II
Cottage, C17, with C20 rear extension. Timber-framed, plastered, roof thatched. 2 bays, with C19 external chimney stack at NE gable. Single storey with attics. On ground floor, one 3-light casement window, one of 2 lights, boarded door with small iron grille over glass pane all C20, and C20 casement window of 2 lights in gabled dormer in NE bay. Roof half-hipped at SW end only. Jowled storey posts, cambered central tiebeam severed for a door, axial ceiling beams, that in the SW bay stop-chamfered, the other plastered over. Partition between ground floor rooms stripped to expose framing. Photograph at NMR, ref. 137/3-3, shows that this cottage has been little altered externally since the 1930's despite recent renovation. Then it had a weatherboarded dado on the front elevation; now gone and the SW ground floor window was of 2 lights, now 3. Door then plain. No other significant change. Listed Grade III in April 1952 under the present name.
