Details

ST CLEER SX 27 SE 6/55 Pair of chimneys at SX 255 - 701 and SX 259 701 II Pair of chimneys at Craddock Moor Mine. Circa 1850 - 60. Granite rubble. Pair of chimneys, one to west and one to east. Chimney to west is of circular plan, tapered, on-plinth. Chimney to east has remains of a gabled building at the base, also circular plan, tapered, and cornice. Craddock Moor Mine was started in 1844; a new company took over in 1854, and a small 16 inch engine installed. By 1862, the mine was 100 fathoms deep, and at about the peak of its prosperity.
