6/55 Pair of chimneys at SX 255
- 701 and SX 259 701
II
Pair of chimneys at Craddock Moor Mine. Circa 1850 - 60. Granite rubble. Pair of
chimneys, one to west and one to east.
Chimney to west is of circular plan, tapered, on-plinth. Chimney to east has remains
of a gabled building at the base, also circular plan, tapered, and cornice.
Craddock Moor Mine was started in 1844; a new company took over in 1854, and a small
16 inch engine installed. By 1862, the mine was 100 fathoms deep, and at about the
peak of its prosperity. Working ceased by 1873, when the machinery was advertised
for sale.
