Details
ST NEOT DRAYNES SX 26 NW 10/128 Higher Draynes Farmhouse - 8.4.87 II Farmhouse. Late C17, with C19 and later alterations. Painted slatestone and granite rubble. Asbestos slate roof with gable ends and ridge tiles, gable end stacks with granite cornice and shaped tops. Plan: 2-room plan, with central entrance to cross passage. Kitchen to right and parlour to left, each heated by a gable end stack. There is a C19 stair inserted in the passage. Later outshut, probably of C19,to the rear of he passage and the kitchen. Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3-window front, all C20 2-light casements. Central gabled porch, the upper part slate-hung, with 2-light casement to front and plain door to right side. First floor string course. Right side has external stack with curved oven at the base. Single storey outshut has half-glazed C20 door. Left side has external stack. At the rear, the outshut is built into the bank. Interior: Front right room has wide fireplace with timber lintel replaced in the C20. Oven to rear left. Irregular chamfered beams. Slate floor. Cupboard with panelled door to the right of the fireplace. C19 straight stair in passage, with panelling to the side; the passage was widened, to create a small room to the right of the stair.
