Pair of lodges to Moditonham House (qv) with pair of gate piers. Late C18. Lodges
in slatestone rubble, partly rendered. Hipped slate roofs with stacks with brick
shafts. Granite gate piers.
Plan: Each lodge is of one-plan, with entrance formerly on the inner side, (facing
the drive) and each heated by a stack to the outer side. Later C20 additions. The
gate piers are one on each side of the drive between the lodges.
Exterior: Each lodge is 2-storey, formerly a symmetrical pair. The north lodge is
unrendered rubble; the west front has a C20 glazed door. 2-storey C20 addition to
left side. The right side faces the drive, and has an ogee head 2-light casement at
ground floor to left, formerly the front door. Two 2-light C20 casements at first
floor; rear has similar ogee head 2-light casement at ground floor.
The south lodge has the west front rendered, with ogee head 2-light casement at
ground floor. The outer right side has single storey C20 addition. The inner side
has ogee 2-light casement, formerly door. Rear has ogee 2-light casement at ground
floor.
Pair of granite ashlar piers, with square caps, surmounted by a large ball finial on
a circular plinth with roll-moulding.
