2/10003 Building forming west side of courtyard at Home Farm
GV II
Farm building, purpose not known. Late C16 with inserted C19 windows. timber-framed, clad with black weatherboarding. Hipped roof, mainly plain tiles but pantiles on south face. Double doors and 3 pivoting casements. Side purlin roof on raking struts. External curved tension wind bracing in south wall. Somewhat rebuilt, but interesting features include arch-braced tie-beams, jowled posts and very early examples of dragon-ties at the four comers. This is mid-Essex style carpentry in contrast to the SW Essex style of the main barn.
