Farmhouse, c.1776, altered late C19; early C19 wing and late C19 porch and
conservatory. Dressed sandstone with painted chamfered quoins at angles
and late Cl9 painted ashlar dressings. Brick porch stuccoed and scored to
represent ashlar. Lakeland slate roof with stone gable copings and end
stacks. Clay pantiles on wing and Welsh slate on porch. Timber and glass
conservatory. 2 storeys and basement; 3-bay entrance front (north- west) of
which centre bay is concealed by 2-storey porch, with chamfered quoins at
angles. Segment-headed doorway with 3-panelled door and fanlight, flanked
by sash windows; all with architraves and keystones, now partly missing. 3
first-floor sash windows and embattled parapet to porch, from which most of
stucco is now missing. Right-hand bay has louvred and glazed basement
window; horizontal sash with glazing bars on ground floor, late C19 sash
with glazing bars on first floor, all with sills and keystones. Left-hand
bay has early C20 casements with glazing bars in original openings with
sills and keystones. Moulded eaves cornice to shallow parapet. Garden
front (south-east): 3 bays. Central doorway with architrave and
entablature, holding glazed door. Round-headed window above. Late C19
casements with rusticated surrounds and keystones. Shallow pediment with
timber mouldings on shallow parapet. Conservatory adjoins centre bay.
Garret lights in gables of 2-span roof. Lower, 2-storey wing adjoins
north-east side: one window. Late C19 casements. Rebuilt end stack.
Single-storey lean-to outhouse with hipped roof, adjoins north-west side of
wing. Interior retains original panelled wood window shutters.
Single-storey lean-to outhouse adjoining north-east side of wing is not of
interest. Farm outbuildings to north-east are too much altered to be of
interest. Dilapidated at time of survey. Formerly known as Stanghow Hall.
