Private Chapel at Hough-hole House

Formerly Methodist then Swedenborgian Chapel: dated 1844, for and by
James Mellor jnr. Coursed, squared, buff, sandstone rubble with
ashlar dressings and stone flagged roof with 1 stone chimney. Chapel
of 3 bays on upper storey approached by external stone spiral
staircase with simple iron handrail. 3-centred headed doorcase
flanked by rectangular windows with original glazing bars. An
inscribed plaque reading "With all thy getting get understanding 1844"
above. Central weathervane on a tapered stone plinth.
Interior: Has cast-iron fireplace in one corner and a wooden cupboard
in the other which contains a lead-lined slit for a telescope (now
missing).
