MIDDLEWICH C.P. CHESTER ROAD SJ 66 NE North Sides 1/25 Mortuary Chapels Archway and Spire in Middlewich Cemetery
GV II
Pair of parallel cemetery chapels linked by archway with spire, 1859 by Bellamy and Hardy, yellow stone in small coursed rock-faced blocks with ashlar dressings; graded grey slate roofs. C13 style detail. Central pinnacled ogee archway carries tower with diagonal buttresses, capped by broach spire. Shoulder-arched doorway to each chapel, under central archway; gabled porch on outer side of each chapel; 3-light Geometrical window in each front gable; 2-light window on each rear gable; pinnacles and, on front gables, ornate stone openwork cresting. A vigorously expressed landmark. Interiors not inspected.
