NEWBOLD ASTBURY C.P. WATERY LANE SJ 86 SW 4/69 Ciss Green Farmhouse 14/2/1967 - II
Farmhouse. C17 with extensive C19 additions. Timber framed with wattle and daub and brick infill and brick with slate roof. Two storeys. Farmyard front: Two-gabled front, the right hand one being of C19 date with 2-light casements to the ground and first floors and a single light attic window above. To left of this the C17 portion has a renewed ground floor of C19 brick with a rectangular bay window at right and a porch at left. To the first floor are 6 x 2 cells of small-framing with small-framing to the gable with quadrant infill to two of the cells. The gable is slightly jettied and has an ovolo-moulded bressumer. The left hand side is obscured by C19 outshuts. The rear has the projecting gable-end of the C17 portion at right which is covered in pebbledash render and has C19 fenestration. One ridge stack to the left and gabled wing on the entrance front. Interior: the kitchen has an ingle nook fireplace with an ovolo-moulded bressumer and chamfered ceiling beams. There is also a staircase which has 1½ flights of steps with a half landing. Splat balusters with moulded sides on the slope and square newel posts with reeded edges and faceted ball finials and a moulded hand rail. To the edge of the stair well is a band of moulded plasterwork showing knots of foliage and grapes.
